Pallet delivery is usually far cheaper than people expect โ but the headline "from ยฃ25" prices you see advertised rarely match the total once tail-lifts, timed slots and awkward postcodes are added. Here's what a pallet actually costs to move in the UK in 2026, and how to avoid paying over the odds.
Rough guide prices (2026)
Prices vary by distance, weight and how you book, but as a broad guide for a single palletised shipment:
- Quarter pallet (up to ~250kg, ~0.6m high) โ roughly ยฃ25โยฃ45
- Half pallet (up to ~500kg, ~1m high) โ roughly ยฃ35โยฃ60
- Full pallet (standard 1.2m ร 1.0m, up to ~1000kg) โ roughly ยฃ45โยฃ90 nationally, less for short local runs
- Multiple / oversized pallets โ priced per pallet, with discounts as the count rises; a dedicated local courier or man-with-van run can beat network pricing for a few pallets over a short distance.
These are indicative only โ the sensible move is to post the job and let couriers with the right vehicle compete for it, because the real price depends on the factors below.
What actually moves the price
- Distance and postcode. Local and regional runs are cheapest. Highlands, islands and some remote postcodes carry a surcharge.
- Pallet size and weight. You pay by the pallet "grade" (quarter / half / full / oversize) and its weight band โ an overweight pallet bumps up a grade.
- Number of pallets. Cost per pallet drops as the count goes up; a part-load can be cheaper than you'd think.
- Tail-lift and manual handling. No forklift at collection or delivery? You'll need a tail-lift vehicle and possibly pump-truck access โ usually a surcharge.
- Timed or express delivery. A guaranteed AM, pre-noon or same-day slot costs more than an economy 2โ3 day service.
- Fragile, hazardous or non-stackable loads. Anything that can't be stacked takes more room and costs more.
Network courier vs local driver โ which is cheaper?
Pallet networks (the big hub-and-spoke operators) are efficient for single pallets going long distances on an economy timescale. But for a few pallets over a short or regional distance, or anything needing a specific collection time, an independent courier or a man-with-a-van with a tail-lift van often comes in cheaper and more flexible โ you're not paying for a national depot network you don't need. The only way to know is to compare both on your actual route.
How to get the cheapest pallet quote
- Measure and weigh accurately. Guess low and you'll be re-graded (and re-charged) on collection.
- Be honest about access. State whether there's a forklift at each end โ it decides whether you need a tail-lift.
- Flex your timescale. An economy 2โ3 day slot is markedly cheaper than a timed one if you don't need it fast.
- Get competing quotes. Independent couriers price the same job very differently โ a quick comparison typically saves 20โ40%.
