How to Write a Removal Job Listing That Gets Great Bids

The quality of your job listing directly affects the quality of bids you receive. Here's how to write a listing that attracts the best removal drivers and gets you competitive quotes.

Not all job listings are created equal. A well-written listing attracts more bids, more competitive prices, and more experienced drivers. Here's how to write one that gets results.

1. Describe your load in detail

Drivers need to know what they're moving so they can quote accurately. Don't just say "2-bedroom flat" — tell them what furniture you have:

  • How many large pieces? (sofas, wardrobes, beds, dining tables)
  • How many boxes approximately?
  • Any particularly heavy or awkward items? (piano, American-style fridge, gym equipment)
  • What vehicle size do you think you'll need?

2. Be specific about access

Nothing causes more problems on moving day than unexpected access issues. Always mention:

  • Is there parking directly outside both properties?
  • Are there stairs? How many flights?
  • Are there any narrow corridors or awkward turns?
  • Is there a lift? (And is it big enough for large furniture?)
  • Any restricted access times? (building rules, parking permit zones)

3. Add photos

A photo is worth a thousand words when it comes to removal jobs. Take photos of your largest pieces of furniture, the access routes at both properties, and any awkward corners. Drivers who can see what they're getting into give more accurate quotes.

4. Give a realistic date and flexibility

If you're flexible on your moving date, say so. Drivers often have gaps in their schedules on specific days and will price those cheaper. Even saying "prefer Friday but Wednesday also works" can make a difference.

5. Be honest about packing

Will everything be boxed and ready? Or do you need the driver to help with packing? If you need packing help, say so upfront — some drivers offer this and some don't. Surprises on moving day are bad for everyone.

6. Respond to queries promptly

Drivers may message you with clarifying questions before bidding. The faster you respond, the more bids you'll get. Drivers who can't get answers often move on to other jobs.

A well-written job listing typically generates 3–5x more bids than a vague one — and more bids means more competition, which means better prices for you.
