  • ✅ Research storage options if needed during the gap between properties
  • ✅ Start collecting free boxes from supermarkets and local shops

  • ✅ Contact HMRC, your bank, and financial institutions
  • ✅ Arrange redirect of post with Royal Mail (do this at least 3 weeks before)
  • ✅ Contact your broadband and TV provider to arrange transfer or cancellation
  • ✅ Take meter readings at your current property
  • ✅ Notify your children's school of the move
  • ✅ Register with a new GP and dentist if moving areas

2 weeks before moving

  • ✅ Confirm your moving date with the driver
  • ✅ Update your address with subscription services (Amazon, Netflix, etc.)
  • ✅ Notify your car insurance and any other insurance providers
  • ✅ Update your driving licence and V5C vehicle registration

1 week before moving

  • ✅ Finish packing all non-essential rooms
  • ✅ Label every box clearly — room destination AND brief contents

  • ✅ Confirm access details with your driver — parking, timing, any codes or keys needed
  • ✅ Arrange for pets and children to be elsewhere on moving day if possible

Moving day

  • ✅ Do a final check of every room, cupboard, loft, and shed
  • ✅ Take meter readings at both properties
  • ✅ Check all windows are locked and utilities are off at your old property
  • ✅ Leave keys as agreed with solicitor or estate agent
  • ✅ Make sure your driver has the delivery address and any parking info for the new property

After moving

  • ✅ Notify the electoral roll of your new address
  • ✅ Set up council tax at the new property
  • ✅ Register with utilities if not already transferred
  • ✅ Leave a review for your driver on We Got The Move to help other customers
