Websites like Shiply split into two camps, and it is worth knowing which you are dealing with:
- Bidding marketplaces — you post a job, drivers compete for it, you choose a quote. You stay in control and nobody calls you unless you want them to. Shiply, AnyVan, uShip and We Got The Move all work this way.
- Lead-selling sites — you submit your details, the site sells them to several companies, and those companies then contact you. Bark and Compare My Move work this way. Expect your phone to ring.
Neither is wrong, but if you dislike sales calls, the distinction is the single most useful thing on this page.

The bidding marketplaces
Shiply is the best known, with a large driver base built over many years. Good coverage for unusual routes and awkward loads. Drivers pay a tiered success fee on jobs they win — reported at roughly 3.9–9.9%, falling as job value rises — which they build into their bids.
AnyVan gives you an instant estimated price rather than making you wait for bids, which some people prefer. The trade-off is cost — its cut is generally higher, and although AnyVan does not publish a figure, drivers commonly report around 20–25%. uShip is a large international marketplace covering freight and vehicles as well as household moves. Strong for vehicle transport and unusual cargo; less focused on standard UK house removals.
We Got The Move charges drivers no commission at all. Drivers keep 100% of their quote, so they can bid their genuine rate instead of padding it to cover a platform cut. The only charge is a £9.99 booking deposit, paid by you when you accept a bid.
The lead sellers
Bark and Compare My Move don't run auctions. You fill in a form, they sell your contact details to several removal firms, and those firms ring you. Because the companies pay for your details whether or not they win the work, that cost is recovered across the jobs they do win.

Which should you use?
- Lowest price — a zero-commission bidding marketplace, because nothing is being skimmed off the driver's quote.
- Speed and no waiting — AnyVan's instant quote, or a lead site if you don't mind the calls.
- Unusual or specialist loads — Shiply or uShip, where the driver base is broadest.
- No sales calls — stick to the bidding marketplaces and avoid the lead sellers.
